Dr James Downie

Dr James Downie MBChB, BSc, PgDip, MRCGP

James is the principal General Practitioner at Burbage Surgery.

He studied Medicine at Leeds University, whilst also completing a BSc in Sport Science related to Medicine.

After graduation he undertook a PgDip in Clinical Management of Pain from Edinburgh University.

He completed his GP training in Yorkshire and moved to Wiltshire to be closer to Devon where he grew up and his father was a GP.

He now sits on the board of the East Kennet Primary Care Network.  

He is happy to see any illness at any age but specialises in musculoskeletal medicine and undertakes steroid joint injections, cryotherapy, and minor surgical procedures.  

 

Dr Clare Michell (f)

Dr Clare Michell BSc, MBChB (hons), MRCP, MRCGP, DFSRH, LoC IUT

Clare is a Salaried GP at the Surgery.

She studied Medicine at Bristol University whilst at the same time completing a BSc in Physiology. She has completed her membership exams to the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP).

During her GP training she became a Clinical Teaching Fellow at Imperial College teaching medical students and carrying out research at St George’s Hospital. 

She has trained in Expedition Medicine and was an Expedition Doctor on different challenges around the world before having a family and moving to Wiltshire. 

Dr Michell has an interest in all forms of general medicine in children and adults. She has a specialist interest in women’s health including the menopause and HRT. She has a Diploma in family planning and reproductive health, and she fits contraceptive coils. She continues to be involved in teaching medical students and sits on the local LMC Committee that represents local General Practices.

Dr Andrea Clark MBChB MRCGP DCH

Andrea has been here as one of our Salaried GPs since 2011. She trained at Bristol University and qualified in 1985.

She is happy to see people of all ages, with a wide range of conditions, and works all day on Mondays and Fridays.

Dr Kate Bailey BSc BMBS MRCGP

Kate is a salaried GP at Burbage Surgery

She initially studied Psychology at Durham University and then went on to study Medicine at Nottingham University. She undertook her GP training in the Nottingham area, completing further training in Family planning and sexual health, and gaining a diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. 

She is happy to work with any age or problem, but particularly Women's Health; Urology and Dermatology

Dr Alex Carpenter MBBS BSc MRCGP

Alex is a salaried GP at the surgery

She studied medicine at Barts and the London medical school and completed a BSc in sports and exercise medicine whilst there. Alex spent some time working in Australia before completing her GP training in London. She then worked in Devon and joined us in Burbage in 2022.

Alex is happy to see patients of any age with any problem.
